PUP modernization pushed
HOUSE Deputy Majority Leader Erwin T. Tulfo and his colleagues from the ACT-CIS and two other lawmakers on Wednesday filed a bill amending Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1341 to modernize the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
House Bill (HB) No.9060, was signed by Tulfo and his colleagues from the ACT-CIS, Edvic Yap and Jocelyn Tulfo and two other lawmakers, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap and Quezon city 2nd District Rep. Ralph Tulfo to introduce essential amendments in the PUP charter to adopt in changing needs of modernize education.
“These measures are driven by the fundamental goal of elevating the quality of education and nurturing academic excellence within PUP,” the lawmakers said in the proposed measure.
A same bill was filed by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez along with his wife, Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez and Rep. Jude Acidre last August 14, 2023.
Erwin Tulfo and his colleagues said, PD 1341, which established the PUP in 1978, requires updating to address the evolving educational landscape.
“The proposed changes are intended to ensure that the PUP remains a relevant and effective institution, committed to high-quality education, innovation, and socio-economic development,” the bill stated.
“Foregoing considered, the bill reflects the government’s dedication to advancing education and academic excellence through modernizing PUP’s charter, reinforcing its role as a dynamic institution that meets the diverse educational needs of the nation,” it added.
