PRO7 agents nab ranking NPA leader in Bicol

A RANKING New People’s Army (NPA0 rebel in Central Visayas was arrested by the police while lurking at the Bohol provincial capitol building in Tagbilaran City last Friday, Police Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Roderick Augustus B. Alba said yesterday.

Elizer Samorano Nabas alias ‘Yocyoc/Kepli/Jinggoy/Nonoy/Bernie,’ a 46-year-old farmer-member of the CPP/NPA’s Bohol Regional Party Committee is included in the Periodic Status Report of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces.

In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., Alba said the suspect, tagged as Bohol province’s no. 1 most wanted person was arrested at the provincial capitol building in Tagbilaran City 12 noon Friday by members of the Bohol Provincial Police Office, the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the PRO7 Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the Regional Intelligence Unit, the Aviation Security Unit 7 and the Philippine Army.

A tip from an informant led security forces to the suspect who was tagged as a political guide and squad leader of the NPA terror group called Sparu apart from being a former member of the CPP/NPA’s Regional Striking Force and squad leader of NPA committees in Cebu and Bohol.

Alba said the suspect is the subject of eight separate warrants of arrest issued by different regional trial courts in Bohol.

They include a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder issued against him by Judge Sisinio Virtudazo of the Carmen, Bohol RTC Branch 51; a warrant for 10 counts of murder issued by Judge Suceso Arcamo of the Tagbilaran City RTC Branch 7;

A warrant for murder and six counts of attempted murder issued by Judge Adonis Laure o the Carmen RTC Branch 51; a warrant for murder issued by Judge Jennifer Chavez-Marcos of the Carmen RTC Branch 51; another warrant for two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder issued by Judge Laure; a warrant of arrest for seven counts of attempted homicide issued by Judge Olivia Mende of the Bilar-Sevilla Municipal Circuit Trial Court; a warrant for three counts of frustrated murder issued by Judge Sucemo; and a warrant for homicide again issued by Judge Laure.

No bail was recommended by the judges for the temporary liberty of the accused in connection with the string of murder charges filed against him. However, the accused was allowed to post a P200,000 bail for each homicide case and another P36,000 bail for each case of attempted homicide charges slapped on him.

The suspect is now being held under tight security at the Albuquerque Municipal Police Station in Bohol.
