PHILIPPINE National Police chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos on Monday appealed on all moviegoers to be the real heroes in protecting themselves and others from any form of health risk amid the pandemic.

The top cop issued the appeal as the American-made superhero film ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ made its big screen launch in cinemas nationwide.

“We have seen photos of people standing in long queues outside the movie houses. Cinemas may have reopened in some areas with lower COVID Alert Level status, but this doesn’t mean that the minimum public health standard must be disregarded,” Gen. Carlos said.

He said that movie houses are among the establishments allowed by local government units to operate anew so the PNP trust in the capability of various theater operators and management to enforce the health protocol through the strict monitoring of movie-goers of their security officers.

“We remain committed to assist in the implementation of the protocol especially when the situation may be overwhelming already,” Gen. Carlos said.

He said that they expect measures such as prohibiting food and drinks, the mandatory wearing of face masks and the observance of physical distancing inside movie houses to be strictly implemented in the wake of the growing cases of COVID-19 in the country.
