THE country’s 4th highest Philippine National Police (PNP) official on Monday took his oath of office as a new three-star general.

Newly-promoted Lieutenant General Rhodel O. Sermonia, currently The Chief Directorial Staff (TCDS) of the 225,000-strong police force got his 3rd-star by virtue of his position. His promotion was signed by President Duterte following a recommendation from Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary and concurrent National Police Commission chairman, Secretary Eduardo M. Año.

As PNP-TCDS, Lt. Gen. Sermonia, a member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Makatao’ Class of 1989 serves as the Chief Operations Officer of the PNP headed by General Dionardo B. Carlos.

He coordinates, supervises and directs the Directorial Staff of the different PNP units in the performance of their respective functions. Prior to his designation as PNP-TCDS, Lt. Gen. Sermonia was the erstwhile PNP Director for Operations.

The youngest member of PMA Class 1989 in the police force, he also previously headed the PNP Directorate for Police-Community Relations, the Police Community Affairs Development Group and the Police Regional Office 3 in Central Luzon.

PNP Deputy Chief for Operations, Lt. Gen. Israel Ephraim T. Dickson supervised the donning of rank and oath-taking of Lt. Gen. Sermonia.

Four other newly-promoted police officials also took their oath of office along with Sermonia.

They are PNP Director for Intelligence, new Major Gen. Michael John F. Dubria and newly-promoted Brigadier Generals Joel B. Doria, Edgar Alan O. Okubo and Alden B. Delvo.

Dubria belongs to PMA ‘Sambisig’ Class of 1991 while Doria, Okubo and Delvo are all products of the PNP Academy.

Brig. Gen. Doria is currently the PNPA Commandant of Cadets while Okubo is the Deputy Regional Director for Administration of the PRO11 in Southern Mindanao. Delvo is the Executive Officer of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence.
