PH detects 225 more cases of 3 Omicron subvariants

THE country has detected 225 more cases of three Omicron subvariants — 190 BA.5, 34 BA.4 and one BA.2.12.1 — all based on the genome sequencing results as of August 9.

Of the total BA.5 tally, 162 cases were from the Davao Region, 23 from Soccsksargen, three from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and one each from Caraga and the National Capital Region.

“One hundred forty-nine individuals are fully vaccinated, apat ay partially vaccinated, habang ang 37 ay inaalam pa ang vaccination status,” Department of Health (DOH) officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said Friday.

The DOH is still verifying the exposure and travel history of each of the infected persons.

To date, 175 of the cases are tagged as recovered, seven are undergoing isolation while the outcomes of the remaining eight are still being verified.

“Based on our latest sequencing run, overall, there are 4,203 cases of BA.5 detected in our country, so far,” Vergeire said.

For the additional BA.4 cases, 23 were from Soccsksargen and 11 were from the Davao Region.

Twenty-seven of them are fully vaccinated while the vaccination status of the remaining seven individuals is still being verified.

The DOH is also verifying their exposures and travel histories.

Thirty-three of the cases are tagged as recovered while the outcome of the remaining case is still being verified.

The additional BA.2.12.1 case is from the Davao Region.

The case’s exposure, travel history and vaccination status are still unknown.

The individual is now tagged as recovered.

Currently, the country has logged a total of 149 BA.4 cases and 182 BA.2.12.1 cases. Philippine News Agency
