PCUP launches NUPA

THE Accreditation Caravan and National Urban Poor Assembly (NUPA) of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) was successfully launched on Monday, April 19 in Talisay City, Cebu and will continue until the 26th of April in various areas in Visayas.

The said PCUP programs are strongly promoted by the Commission for the benefit of urban poor organizations to have more effective and faster access to PCUP programs and services and other government agencies through registration and accreditation to the Commission.

It will also serve as a way for the marginalized sector to have a stronger voice regarding their problems and issues faced and provide them with appropriate solutions in the appropriate manner and effective consultation. The program also aims to promote a proper representation of the poor sector to be part of the PCUP in formulating policies and implementing programs relevant to their interests and development.

According to PCUP Chairman and CEO, Undersecretary Alvin S. Feliciano, “It is time for us to give opportunity to our poor countrymen to actively participate in the programs and initiatives of our government for the betterment of their lives”.

“We at PCUP, will continue to encourage poor organizations not only in the Visayas Region, but also across the country to register and have their group accredited by PCUP and become a legitimate urban poor organization that will be our agency’s partner towards a more comprehensive and organized communication for the promotion of a stable, convenient, and secured life for all”, added the secretary.

The launch of the Accreditation Caravan and NUPA was also held in Cebu City North on April 20 as well as in Mandaue City that happened on April 21. It will continue on April 23in Lapu-Lapu City and on April 26 in Toledo City.

Meanwhile, PCUP continues to liaise with other government agencies and local governments across the country for the coordination and delivery of such programs to the poor which will definitely be beneficial.
