A BARANGAY in Pasig City inoculated some 500 senior citizens with flu vaccine to give them additional protection against COVID -19, as cases in Metro Manila continue to rise.

Barangay San Antonio, in coordination with the Pasig City government, conducted an anti-flu vax drive aimed at immunizing the elderly who are more vulnerable to COVID-19.

BSA chairman Raymond U. Lising said they want to strengthen the immune system of seniors in their barangay by rolling out an anti-flu vax drive.

“We want to ensure that our senior citizens here in our barangay have extra protection against COVID-19. This is the very reason we provided free flu vaccine for our beloved seniors,” Lising said.

“Based on what we’ve monitored in the news, the number of COVID-19 cases is continuously rising in the metropolis. Thus, we must act and ensure the health and safety of our vulnerable population,” he added.

For the senior citizens who haven’t availed of the free flu vaccine, Lising said they may set up an appointment by contacting the BSA’s health center staff at landline no. 863-36133.

The barangay also distributed paracetamol tablets for flu-like symptoms due to the vaccine’s side-effect.

Lising reminded his constituents to continue to follow health and safety protocols.

“Hindi pa po tapos ang laban natin kontra COVID-19. Patuloy potayong mag-ingat at maging listo para sa ating proteksyon at sa ating mga mahal sa buhay,” Lising stressed.

According to the Department of Health (DOH) COVID-19 Tracker, there are 13,021 active COVID-19 cases in the country as of July 9, with 5,818 cases from the National Capital Region.
