P280K fake cigarettes seized in Bataan

CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — Fake cigarettes worth over P280,000 were seized on Saturday in a buy-bust operation in Bataan.

Bataan police director Col. Joel Tampis said joint operatives of the CIDG-Bataan, and Bataan and Samal police, in coordination with Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation, and Japan Tobacco International Philippines Inc., conducted an operation at Sitio Torres, Bgy. San Juan, Samal, Bataan.

Arrested was trader Mark Kalvin Bernardo, 34, of Sitio Torres, Bgy. San Juan, Samal, Bataan.

Confiscated from Bernardo were 35 reams of Marlboro Red, 37 reams of Marlboro lights, 38 reams of Fortune green, 45 reams of Fortune lights, 28 reams of Mighty menthol soft packs, 11 reams of Mighty menthol fliptop, 38 reams of Jackpot green, two reams of Marvels red, 13 reams of Marvels green menthol, with a total estimated value of P285,600, and the marked money.

Tampis said the suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Rights Law.

“While the police are very much focused on its all-out war on illegal drugs, our personnel will continue to implement focused police operations to fight all forms of crime and lawlessness,”said Polie Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon.
