Road to House clear for Recto

THE road to the House of Representatives is clear for Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto as he is running unopposed as congressman for the 6th District of Batangas.

According to the Provincial Election Supervisor of Comelec at the end of the filing of certificate of candidacy on Friday last week.

In his short speech at the Comelec, Recto thanked his constituents for their overwhelming trust and support.

He vowed to continue fighting for the welfare of Filipinos through meaningful legislation at the House of Representatives.

“As always, my top priority would be to push for measures that will benefit our countrymen, especially the Batanguenos in my district,” Recto said.

The husband of Batangas Governor Vilmas Santos, Recto served as congressman of 4th district of the province from 1992 to 2001.

Recto was praised for his bills enacted into law to support economic reforms and poverty alleviation.

These are the Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act, the Philippine Economic Zone Law, Amendment to the Special Economic Zone Law, the Retail Trade Liberalization Law, and the Regional Headquarters Law to name a few.

At the Senate where he served for three terms, the grandson of statesman Claro M. Recto was lauded for his legislation with a positive impact on consumers, small entrepreneurs, workers and industries.

Among which are increasing the tax-exempt ceiling on 13th month pay, Christmas bonus and other benefits, mandatory PHILHEALTH coverage for senior citizens, additional benefits for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization, Murang Kuryente Act, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Act, Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act, Universal Health Care Act, Philhealth Coverage for PWDs, Tax Amnesty Act, Social Security Act, Ease of Doing Business/Expanded Anti-Red Tape Act, Free Internet Access in Public Places, Extending the Validity of Philippine Passport and Driver’s License, and the National ID System.

Latest laws co-authored by Recto include the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises Act or CREATE, COVID-19 Vaccination Program, Extending the Availability of Appropriations under Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, and Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
