AGENTS of the Police Regional Office 1 and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission on Friday overrun eight secret marijuana cultivation sites in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur where they uprooted and destroyed over P8 million worth of fully-grown cannabis, the Journal Group learned.

PRO1 director, Brigadier General John C. Chua said that the clandestine marijuana production sites were found in Barangay Licungan and Sitio Nakneng in Bgy. Caoayan in Sugpon municipality by members of the PRO1 Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the Sugpon and Alilem Municipal Police Stations and the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The PRO1 launched its ‘Oplan Damo’ in coordination with the PAOCC headed by Executive Director Gilbert DC Cruz. The operation led in the uprooting and burning of more than 40,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants and five kilograms of dried cannabis leaves.

As of press time, follow-up operations are still underway to identify and arrest the persons behind the cultivation of the prohibited crops, said Brig. Gen. Chua.
