Oftana shines as TNT rallies to beat NLEX

TNT Tropang Giga rode on Calvin Oftana’s career-high 37 points to subdue NLEX Road Warriors in an out-of-town game in the PBA Philippine Cup in Candon, Ilocos Sur last Saturday.

Oftana went 11-of-20 from the field, and added 12 rebounds, and six assists in almost 36 minutes of action as the Tropang Giga rallied to beat the Road Warriiors for their second straight win and 4-3 overall.

RR Pogoy added 21 points, including three triples, and seven rebounds for the Tropang Giga, who battled back from an 11-point third quarter deficit (76-87) to escape with the win.

The win, which came after TNT’s 92-90 victory over Meralco last April 7 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, put the Tripang Gga in a two-way tie with Barangay Ginebra for fourth place.

Veteran Jayson Castro had 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists and Glenn Khobuntin had 11 points and five rebounds for the Tropang Giga of coach Chot Reyes.

Robbie Herndon and Robert Bolick led the Road Warriors” losing effort.

Herndon had 25 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc, and four rebounds in almost 31 minutes of playing while Bolick added 23 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Frankie Lim-mentored NLEX.

Michael Miranda contributed with 17 points and Dominic Fajardo chipped in with 14 points.

The Road Warriors blew an 11-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, and Tropang Giga outscored NLEX 28-14 in the final quarter.

NLEX dropped to 5-2.

Earlier Saturday, Rain or Shine recorded its fourth straight win after defeating Terrafirma Dyip, 116-104, at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Seven players, led by veteran big man Beau Belga and Andrei Caracut, scored in double figures for Coach Yeng Guiao.

Belga notched 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, along with eight assists and seven rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
