NYC Fil-Am group’s friendship forged in fire, deep love for family
THE crisp dollar bills flew in the air and into the palms of the excited revelers. Hardly had the euphoria and delightful shrieks died down when another batch of bills sent the guests into a new grabbing frenzy. Then another batch fell like endless Christmas manna from heaven. And another.
Yet the surprise Santa of the evening kept sharing her blessings and making everybody happy.
It was the New York Fil-Am group celebrating their nth trademark Christmas. Set in the lovely Rivera home, the revelers marked the blessed occasion with a unique fusion of Filipino and US traditions.
Heartwarmingly, theirs is a friendship forged in fire and a shared deep love for family, trust, loyalty and Pinoy values.
The member families, as well as the individuals, are kindred spirits who find strength in adversity. They also have a common zest for life, laughter and pure love. Amid their respective successes, they have kept their humility and warm, welcoming hearts intact.
This column could attest to this Fil-Am group’s overflowing kindness and affinity to embrace newly arrived Filipinos in New York. This beloved bunch is a far cry from disheartening stories of Pinoys who shun and shut out newcomers.
The gang did it again last Christmas. They treated a young Pinoy visitor from New Zealand as if he were their own. The newbie immediately felt at home and part of the brood. He was given generous servings of the Christmas feast as well as Pinoy charm, humor and hospitality.
For the coming new year, this corner wishes this rare, uniquely loving Fil-Am group more blessings, bliss, and super spreader laughter. May the friendship become stronger with each passing day.
May the ties that bind the gang continue to inspire one another, uplift each other’s lives and give each member an eternal sense of comfort and security, specially in times of difficulty.
