AGENTS of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) this week arrested a woman accused of “posing” as an officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to “extort” money from Metro Manila business establishments in the guise of fire inspection, NCRPO Director Major General Felipe R. Natividad said on Thursday.

The official said that NCRPO-RID agents under Col. Oscar R. Regala Jr. placed the suspect under arrest on the strength of a warrant for three counts of estafa and usurpation of authority issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 136.

Maj. Gen. Natividad said that intelligence agents tracked the suspect in Abra Street corner Ilocos Sur St. in Bgy. Bago Bantay, Quezon City (QC) at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The NCRPO-RID men were assisted by some BFP personnel in arresting the suspect.

The suspect was accused of posing as a BFP personnel to collect money from different establishments in QC and other parts of Metro Manila in the “guise” of regular BFP inspection.

Owners of establishments who fail to come across her demand are threatened with harassment, including possible closure of their businesses.

The NCRPO is still investigating the other associates of the woman amid the possibility that she could have been working with some rogue BFP insiders in the past, officials said.
