THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) yesterday said the first national multi-stakeholder consultation workshop for the 30×30 global climate change program has brought together over 100 representatives from government agencies, non-government organizations and other stakeholders while getting pledges of commitment from more than 190 countries.

Program 30×30 is a global initiative to protect at least 30% of the planet’s lands and water ecosystems by 2030.

The DENR’s Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) spearheaded the consultation workshop aimed at mapping out initiatives and other policy measures that must be taken for the Philippines to meet its commitment to the 30×30 global conservation pledge.

Apart from the government agencies and NGOs, said meeting of minds gathered an overwhelming attendance from academic institutions, indigenous peoples and local communities, private sector entities in an inclusive and participatory approach to enable mechanisms that aim to achieve the ambitious target.

The three-day consultation included topics like policy and governance, social safeguards and contributions of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, sustainable finance solutions and innovations, and conservation planning.
