KEMARK Carino delivered in overtime as Muntinlupa prevailed over Marikina, 79-75, on Saturday and regained traction in the OKBet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Fifth Season at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

Putting his 6-foot-9 height to good use, Carino bunched five points, four on follow-ups, in that span as the Muntinlupa Cagers snap a three-game skid and improved to 6-3 in the elimination round of the 29-team tournament.

Muntinlupa scored the first six points on extra time through Reneford Ruaya, Manuel Mosqueda and Carino before Felipe Chavez broke the ice for Marikina to make it 76-72 with 2:52 to go.

After Carino and Chavez traded baskets, the former Gilas member made the first of his two free throws to push Muntinlupa ahead, 79-74, with only 37 seconds left.

Marikina, which forced overtime on a triple by Jason Opiso and a short jumper by Chavez that sandwiched a jumper by John Cedric Abis, dropped to 3-6.

Mosqueda led Muntinlupa’s offense with 17 points, followed by Ruaya with 11, and Carino and Moralde with 10 each.

Muntinlupa got 20 points and 14 rebounds from Opiso, 17 points from Raymond Casajeros and 13 from Chavez.

Other games saw the Bulacan Kuyas subdue the Bataan Risers, 73-65, and Paranaque trounce Quezon City Gaz N Go, 87-73.

Bulacan drew 16 points from Gwyne Capacio, 14 from Jerick Fabian and 13 plus 10 rebounds from Joseph Gabayni to climb to 6-4, while pulling down Bataan, which missed five ailing players, to 4-5.

Paolo Castro and Jielo Razon posted 14 points each as Paranaque won its third straight and leveled its slate at 5-5.

Quezon City, which tumbled to 2-8, got 11 points from Jake Bagon and 10 each from Mike Delos Santos and Charles Callano.

The MPBL visits the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena with a triple bill pitting Nagros against Valenzuela at 4 p.m., Makati against GenSan at 6 p.m. and Iloilo against Quezon at 8 p.m.
