MEDICAL doctors are now exempted from the number coding scheme or the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) being implemented by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes said the agency acknowledges and values the services rendered by medical doctors in the fight against the COVID-19 virus, including their role in maintaining and preserving the country’s health care system.

Because of these, any vehicle driven or transporting a medical doctor who will be flagged down for violation of the UVVRP shall not be issued a citation ticket and shall be allowed to carry on to his or her destination, provided he or she can present a valid and updated Professional Regulatory Commission Identification Card (PRC ID) at the time of apprehension.

Chairman Artes clarified that his directive shall apply only to physical apprehension where the identity of the driver-medical doctor or passenger-medical doctor can be verified.

In the case of non-contact apprehension, the appropriate protest shall be filed with MMDA’s Traffic Adjudication Division, where the driver of the passenger-medical doctor shall prove by means of presenting evidence that he or she was on board at the time the vehicle was tagged for UVVRP.
