Mayor Sara lashes out at Leni
IN a brazen tirade, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday lashed out at Vice President Leni Robredo, stressing the latter’s remarks about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) surge in Davao City was a clear attack on her leadership, private sector and medical community.
Duterte-Carpio berated Robredo for commenting on Davao City’s COVID-19 situation that the Vice President purportedly lacks understanding and knowledge.
“The private sector has been very helpful and has tremendously contributed to the COVID-19 response in Davao City,” Robredo said. “In addition, The VP should not attack the medical community of Davao City as being inactive when they have been silently suffering and working tirelessly to help save lives since March of last year.”
“The Vice President should refrain from giving advice if she knows nothing about what is happening on the ground. This has been the hallmark of her term as VP, where she puts forth comments on matters and affairs she lacks understanding and knowledge on and does not offer anything helpful to solve a problem,” the presidential daughter said.
She said Robredo can criticize her performance as local chief executive (LCE) at a proper time.
“The VP should avoid involving the COVID-19 surge in Davao City in her attempt at politicking. There will be a proper time to attack my performance as an LCE in this pandemic if she dares to run for president,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Without mentioning Duterte-Carpio during her weekly radio program co-hosted by veteran broadcaster Ely Saludar, BISErbisyong Leni, Robredo claimed that Davao City could learn from Cebu City’s strategy in lowering the COVID-19 cases.
“Kung titingnan mo ngayon na nag-spike na, sa Cebu parang controlled, ‘di ba? Parang controlled and marami ang ginawa—ang partnership doon hindi lang talaga LGU pero very active doon ang medical community,” the Vice President said.
“So tingin ko ang mga lessons sa Cebu, ganoon din. Makakapulot ng aral ang Davao,” Robredo said.
From June 1 to 7, the OCTA Research team bared Davao City was the leading local government unit with most new daily COVID-19 cases, surpassing Quezon City.
The OCTA Research Team said Davao City has an average of 213 COVID-19 cases daily or 44 percent higher than 147 recorded cases from the previous week of June 1 to 7.
Duterte-Carpio said Robredo should open her eyes to the rising COVID-19 cases “in localities all around the world and she might be able to say that a surge in cases where 85% of the cases are asymptomatic is primarily identified by aggressive testing, coupled with tracing and isolation/quarantining.”
