CNN Philippine — The two weather systems inside the Philippine area of responsibility may merge soon, the state weather bureau said.

Tropical Storm Maring and Tropical Depression Nando could merge within the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in an 11 a.m. bulletin.

The possible “merger event” would cause Nando to weaken into a low-pressure area and join the circulation of the dominant cyclone, PAGASA said.

“Eventually, ito pong si Maring ang matitira sa dalawang weather systems,” PAGASA forecaster Ariel Rojas said in a briefing.

[Translation: Eventually, Maring will be the only one left from the two weather systems.

The weather bureau said the cyclone alerts may be raised in some parts of northern Luzon beginning Saturday or Sunday. If Nando and Maring merge, areas outside northern Luzon will also likely be placed under cyclone alert.

Maring was last located east of Virac, Catanduanes– maintaining maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
