Manila PIO warns vs ‘fake’ fire safety inspectors

THE Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) issued a public advisory urging business owners not to “fall prey” to anyone or even retired Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel who will represent themselves as Fire Safety Inspectors.

The MPIO made a public advisory after the Manila Fire District Office issued a notice to the public signed by District Fire Director F/SSupt. Crossbee Gumowang – warning business owners not to be “influenced” by someone representing themselves as Fire Safety Inspector.

Gumowang, in his advisory, said that it has come to their attention that some retired BFP personnel were still conducting an inspection of some business establishments in Manila, giving business owners an “impression” that they could still facilitate the process of their Fire Safety Inspection Certificate (FSIC).

The official clarified that retired uniform and non-uniformed BFP personnel are no longer “active” members of the BFP and were not authorized to conduct an inspection of any business establishments.

The Manila Fire District is now calling business owners or their representatives to report any illegal activities of those who will represent themselves as Fire Safety Inspector to the office of the District Fire Director for appropriate action, or they may call the hotline number 0966-476 9700.

The bureau said that those who will conduct a Fire Safety Inspection must have an Inspection Order duly signed by the Chief, Fire Protection Branch, and District Fire Director, a proper identification card issued by BFP, and must be in complete uniform.
