THE city of Manila has allocated a total of P2.5 million for the victims of typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao.

This was announced by Mayor Isko Moreno, who also thanked Vice Mayor and Council Presiding Officer Honey Lacuna, majority floor leader Joel Chua, president pro tempore Jong Isip and all the city councilors for the swift passage of a resolution that paved the way for the said allotment.

Moreno said that of the P2.5 million, P1 million will be allotted to Cebu while the provinces of Bohol, Leyte and Surigao del Norte will be given P500,000 each.

Lacuna said that right after Moreno made the request for a special session, she immediately convened the council and had the necessary resolution passed without hitches.

Just like the mayor, Lacuna said that she and the entire Manila City Council are also expressing their sympathies to those who have lost loved ones and were displaced by the typhoon.

Moreno also appealed for donations from private citizens who can course through their donations to a fund-raising campaign he had launched, saying being spared from the wrath of “Odette” is enough reason to pay it forward.

According to Lacuna, it was not the first time that the city of Manila had extended support for calamity victims, citing that the same was done for the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption and the Cagayan and Marikina flooding, among others.
