CALOOCAN City Mayor Oscar ‘Oca’ Malapitan ordered the filing of charges against a sari-sari store owner who was arrested for selling a fake COVID-19 vaccine card in a police operation in Bgy. Bagong Silang.

Benjamin Marilao, 52, of Phase 7, Package 2, Bgy. 176 Bagong Silang was arrested Thursday at around 11 a.m. after he sold a fake vaccination card to a police poseur-buyer in an entrapment operation conducted by operatives of Caloocan City Police.

City police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said that prior to the operation, they reported to the mayor the information they received that Marilao was offering fake vaccination cards to the public for a fee ranging from P500 to P2,500 which prompted the city chief executive to order his arrest.

“May natanggap tayong report hinggil sa ganitong gawain. Kung kaya naman, sa direktiba rin ng ating Punong-Lungsod, kaagad natin itong minonitor at nagsagawa tayo ng operasyon,” Mina said,

For his part, Mayor Oca said this kind of illegal activity will never be tolerated as he warned those who will be caught involved in peddling fake vaccination cards that they will be severely punished.

He likewise asked residents not to patronize fake vaccination cards and instead report immediately to authorities this kind of illegal activity.

“Mayroon tayong database kung saan naroroon ang records ng mga nabakunahan natin sa Caloocan. Doon ay machecheck natin kung talagang nabakunahan ang isang tao. Bukas naman araw-araw ang ating mga vaccination site. Magpabakuna po tayo upang maproteksyunan ang ating sarili at ang ating komunidad,” Mayor Oca said in his statement.
