MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – To accommodate more consumers and provide better service, Mayor Crisostomo Garbo announced his plans on renovating the city’s public market building on MacArthur highway, Barangay San Francisco.

Garbo said the local government of Mabalacat will allot between P100 to P200 million budget for the repair and renovation of the building.

Based on the initial plan, the ground floor will house the wet section of the market while the 2nd floor will be allotted for non-food items and LGU offices, and the 3rd floor will be for the parking space.

A 965-square-meter lot is also being eyed for the expansion of the public market. The city’s Urban Poor Affairs Office (UPAO) are also doing the mapping to help relocate the families who currently reside in the area.

A solar lighting system will also be installed and used in the renovated public market to help save on electricity consumption and sustain the operation of the stores even during power interruptions.

Garbo has met with the Market Vendors Association to discuss the adjustment of the rental fees and reminded the members on the rules and regulations in doing business in the public market.

The renovation of the public market building is set to start in the second quarter of this year.
