PARTIDO Reporma chairman and standard bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said the use of unauthorized “wang wang” (siren) is like an extortion activity against the motorists who are religioulsy abiding by the traffic rules only to be “swept” and abused by these practice.

According to Lacson, he always believe that the best thing to do to avoid getting late and use emergency sirens, is to get up early, hit the street early and give extra allowance to every scheduled activity.

“Ako, I always put myself in the shoes of the other guy – ‘yung nawawalis, nawa-wang-wang-an. E kung pare-pareho lang nagmamadali, ang solusyon dyan is maaga kang magplano, maaga kang umalis para hindi ka male-late,” the veteran lawmaker said.

During the time of former President, the late Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, he emphasized the need for every Filipino to refrain from the so-called “wang-wang’ mentality not only in the streets but also in the government.

Lacson said that even before Aquino’s anti-“wang-wang” campaign, the veteran legislator said he already practiced it even when he was the country’s top cop.

He cited several instances when even government officials themselves are the ones doing this practice or using their offices and power to abuse other motorists.

“Hindi pa man uso ‘yung ipinagbawal ni late President PNoy [na] wang-wang; ako, hindi ako nag-wa-wang-wang ‘nung Chief PNP ako. Pagka ako ay dumadalaw sa regional conferences, regional commands…ayokong mag-wa-wang-wang galing sa airport papunta doon sa regional headquarters,” the presidential candidate said.

Now that the situation in the road has started to return to the usual past with workers and government employees back to their old routines, Lacson said it is not a remote possibility that the so-called vultures in the streets can also be seen again victimizing public utility drivers and other motorists.

Lacson’s running mate Senate president Vicente “Tito” Sotto has pitched a point on political caravans.

According to Sotto, instead of gathering people for parades, political teams should focus on addressing the problems of the country and look for corresponding solutions or discuss maybe discuss subjects that would educate voters.
