IMEG agent nabbed for shooting, wounding 2 men in Cabanatuan

NUEVA Ecija top cop Police Colonel Richard V. Caballero has ordered the filing of criminal charges against a fellow police officer who was nabbed shortly after allegedly shooting two men while under the influence of liquor during the New Year’s Eve revelry here.

Slapped with charges for two counts of frustrated homicide before the city prosecutor’s office here was a Patrolman assigned to the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) based in Camp Crame.

Caballero said the two shooting victims were residents of Barangay Rizdelis, Cabanatuan City.

The shooting incident occurred in Bgy. Aduas Centro at 12:30 a.m. on January 1.

Investigation showed that the suspect, who was alleged to be under the influence of liquor, shot the victims using a short firearm.

“Na-i-file na po ang double frustrated homicide case laban (sa suspek), bukod sa criminal case ay definitely may kakaharapin din siyang administrative case dahil labag sa batas at sa rules ng PNP ang nagawa niya,” Caballero told the Journal Group.

“Two connecting incidents ‘yan mayroon prior that triggered the 2nd incident,” added Caballero, referring to a mauling incident that preceded the shooting.

Officer-on-Case P/SSgt. Giovanni Macayanan confirmed to the Journal Group that before the shooting, a mauling incident first took place where one victim, also of Bgy. Rizdelis was beaten up by the suspect cop’s friends and neighbors.

Macayanan said this prior altercation led to the shooting of the two victims.

Meanwhile, the two injured victims were rushed to Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center here for medical treatment and are now declared in stable condition, while the arrested suspect was brought to the police station here for proper disposition.
