Illegal recruitment

IF illegal recruitment remains a major problem in the Philippines, blame it partly on the existence of “willing victims.”

These “willing victims” include those hard-headed overseas job applicants who refuse to heed the call of government authorities.

Note that the government has been calling on the people, particularly overseas jobseekers, to deal only with licensed recruitment firms.

“Kaya kung minsan ay kasalanan talaga ng ibang naghahanap ng trabaho kung bakit sila naloloko.” said a former migrant worker.

Last Friday, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down a consultancy firm in Pasay City for alleged illegal recruitment.

Reports said a team of DMW officials, led by Officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, padlocked ll Sea’s Immigration Services.

Cacdac said the consultancy firm is not licensed to recruit and place Filipino workers abroad nor does it have approved job orders.

The reports said the agency, which is located inside the Welcome Plaza Mall in Pasay City, was recruiting workers for Poland and Canada.

The firm uses social media, particularly Facebook, to advertise their job openings and other services to entice overseas job applicants.

We, thus. call anew on the country’s jobseekers to refrain from seeking the help of unlicensed private recruitment agencies.

Better still, check first with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), an attached agency of the DMW.
