TWO pieces of proposed legislation that reflect the concern over the welfare of health professionals and teachers are pending consideration in the House of Representatives.

Among other things, the two bills seek to give a 10 percent discount to all licensed health workers and teachers in the government and the private sector.

These are House Bill Nos. 10291 and 10296, said Quirino Rep. Midy Cua, adding the discount is in recognion of their service to the Filipino people.

“Our health professionals directly work to promote public health and ensure the well-being of our countrymen,” said Cua in HB No. 10291.

“In consideration of the daily risks they are exposed to, there is the opportunity to ensure that they too are looked after,” the lawmaker added.

In HB No. 10296, or the proposed “Teacher Discount Act,” Cua said the measure seeks to recognize the indispensable role of teachers.

The two bills seek to provide health professionals and teachers a 10 percent discount on medicine and other essential medical supplies.

Likewise, they will be given 10 percent discount in public transport, lodging establishments, restaurants and recreation centers.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of granting the discount to the country’s hard-working health workers and teachers.

If the government is a contrivance of human wisdom for human needs, then Cua is on the right path in filing HB Nos. 10291 and 10296.

The Filipino people expect the government to deliver on its pro-worker agenda.
