A HOUSE leader has filed House Bill (HB) No. 4237 on Wednesday seeking to establish the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) City of San Fernando Campus.

“As one of the country’s premiere universities, DHVSU has continued to provide the country with topnotch professionals in various fields,” Deputy Speaker and Pampanga 3rd District Representative Aurelio “Dong” D.Gonzales, Jr. said.

The said state university provides short-term, technical-vocational, undergraduate, and graduate courses to students across the region.

DHVSU currently has six regular campuses in Mexico, Porac, Sto. Tomas, Lubao, Candaba and Apalit. Its main campus is located at Bacolor, Pampanga.

“State Universities and Colleges remain the institutions of choice of underprivileged but deserving students because of free tuition, proximity to their homes, and the high quality of program offerings. They contribute to [the] government’s fundamental strategy to fight poverty by lifting economically and socially-marginalized Filipinos out of indigence,” Gonzales said.

The absence of a state-sponsored tertiary educational institution in the heart of the province of Pampanga forces students to seek admission to SUCs outside their area of residence.

Gonzales pointed out that this situation, coupled with high fuel prices and worsening traffic, puts the family incur extra expenses, robs students of their productive time, and may promote disinterest among the youth to complete their college, technical or professional education.

He said that the proposed location of DHVSU City of San Fernando Campus should bring education opportunities closer to underprivileged but deserving students.

“It shall serve as an avenue for students to focus on their field of study, thereby making them more employable in the Philippines and abroad,” Gonzales added.
