THE Pampanga canvassing board has proclaimed Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. and his two children as top winners in the May 9 elections in the province.

Gonzales, who had no opponent, was credited with 280,375 votes. He is on his third and last term as representative of the third district.

Gonzales served two terms in previous Congresses, from 2007 to 2013.

His daughter Mica was elected no. 1 provincial board member representing the 3rd district, with 227,603 votes, while his son Brenz, a civil engineer like him, was voted no. 1 councilor in the capital city of San Fernando with 82,006 votes.

The Gonzales children, who are newcomers in politics, credited their father’s “good performance” for the wide support they enjoy in their district, composed of San Fernando City and the towns of Bacolor, Arayat, Mexico, and Sta. Ana.

Gonzales, who hails from Mexico municipality, thanked his constituents “for their vote of confidence and trust in us and for giving us an overwhelming mandate.”

“We will continue to serve them well,” he added.

Gonzales has vowed to pursue his “Charter Change” (Cha-Cha) advocacy in the incoming 19th Congress.

He proposes a five-year term for the President and Vice President with one reelection for a total tenure of 10 years, instead of the current six years without reelection.

Presumptive President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate, incoming Vice President Sara Duterte, won big in Pampanga.

The province gave Marcos and Duterte 832,937 and 710,857 votes, respectively.

Their closest opponents, Vice President Leni Robredo and Senate President Vicente Sotto lll, had 357,545 and 321,458 votes. By Ryan Ponce Pacpaco
