GMA’s anti-piracy campaign gets warm welcome from global industry leaders

At the meeting of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) Global Members Meeting in L.A., GMA Network received a warm reception from industry leaders for its notable anti-piracy initiatives. Participants expressed their appreciation for GMA’s pro-active approach to combating piracy, emphasizing the network’s commitment to protecting intellectual property rights and fostering collaborative action on a global scale.

During the meeting, GMA Network’s Anti-Piracy Committee represented by First Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia, shared the network’s ongoing anti-piracy campaign, “Stream Responsibly. Fight Piracy.” which encourages Kapuso viewers around the world to access GMA programs only through legitimate streaming sites.

The communication tactics, featuring the cast of the hit series “Voltes V: Legacy” and Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, were well-received, showcasing the network’s dedication to raising awareness about the importance of legitimate content consumption. Additionally, GMA Network highlighted its collaborations with other anti-piracy proponents in the Philippines, further solidifying its commitment to combating piracy in the country.

Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the Motion Picture Association and Head of ACE Jan Van Voorn commended the Kapuso network’s anti-piracy initiatives and recognized its significant contributions to the fight against piracy.

“We are really thankful for GMA being here in Los Angeles,” says Van Voorn. “It’s really great to have them explain the new anti-piracy campaign in the Philippines, and making sure all the members of ACE can learn from that and replicate it in all other countries around the world.

“I think GMA really put something leading on the map and something people can learn from. The whole purpose of being with ACE is making sure we can learn from each other in order to do a good job in educating consumers while working with law enforcement and stakeholders around the world to impact piracy.”

Joined by 100 participants from member organizations, industry leaders also voiced their support for GMA’s anti-piracy endeavors. Neil Gane, ACE Asia Pacific Regional Director, acknowledged the passing of House Bill 7600 in the House of Representatives.

“A critical tool in the fight against piracy is site blocking, and we would like to congratulate Cong. Jose Salceda in the passing of House Bill 7600, and we are optimistic that the mere bill will be passed in the Senate and also into the law,” Gane says. “We would also like to thank Director General Rowel Barba and his amazing team at the IPOPHL, which is very much becoming a gold standard in the Asia Pacific region.”

Isabel Haskey, Netflix Global Head of Content Protection also highlighted GMA Network’s role in the advocacy against piracy.

“We’ve been working with GMA on some important piracy initiatives in the Philippines, including lobbying for site blocking,” she says. “Working with them has made all the difference in getting the content protection tools that really matter and impact the piracy landscape.”

Don Jones, Director of Strategic Fraud Intelligence at Comcast, also lauded GMA’s anti-piracy efforts and their involvement in ACE.

“Seeing GMA join ACE is really magnificent,” he says. “It’s not until people get involved with ACE that we can actually do something about the problem. It’s very important for us to have not only our internal companies but our partners to be involved in the law enforcement side of this. Until we all come together and start enforcing our rights, we will continue to face the same problem.”

MYSTERY-DRAMAS usually hit it big in teleseryes, like “Widow’s Web”, where the investigation on the death of a major character became so riveting as all the people around him became prime suspects. So we are not surprised that GMA-7 has now come up with “Royal Blood”, another sprawling murder-mystery concerning a dysfunctional family, directed by Dominic Zapata.

The big powerhouse cast is led by Tirso Cruz III as Gustavo Royales, the patriarch of the very rich Royales Family. When he is murdered, his illegitimate son, Dingdong Dantes as Napoleon or Napoy, becomes the prime suspect in his mysteriour demise.

Napoy is a motorcycle delivery boy working hard as a single dad for his daughter’s needs after his wife passed away. He is facing a lot of financial problems but he never asked the help of his estranged father. But when Gustavo, a super wealth business tycoon, suddenly gets in touch with him trying to reconcile, he forgives his erring father.

He then becomes reunited with his half-brother and sister who do not seem to be happy to have him as part of their wealthy family. Little does he know it will be the start of complications in his life as he will be accused of killing their own dad.

“Royal Blood” is a dramatic thunderbolt that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow each exciting episode to find out who really killed Gustavo. GMA Network boasts of a stellar cast led by the real life married couple Megan Young as Diana, the ex-girlfriend and great love of Napoy and Mikael Daez as Kristoff, the half-brother of Napoy and husband of Diana.

Also in the cast are Rhian Ramos as Margaret, Gustavo’s conservative yet mysterious child with her own share of deep dark secrets; Dion Ignacio as Andrew, the ambitious and wily business-savvy husband of Margaret; Lianne Valentin as Beatrice, the witty and materialistic daughter of Gustavo; Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo as Tasha, the kind-hearted neighbor of Napoy who harbors secret feelings for him; and Playing a special and significant role in the program is multi-awarded actor Mr. Tirso Cruz III as Gustavo Royales, the rich and shrewd business tycoon and patriarch of the Royales family.

Also part of the series are Ces Quesada as Aling Cleofe, the head female servant of the Royales family; Benjie Paras as Otep, Napoy’s most trusted friend; Carmen Soriano as Camilla, the evil mother-in-law of Napoy; and Arthur Solinap as Emil Banez, a renowned investigator who will be in charge of the deciphering the murder mystery case.

Adding excitement to the show are Sparkle Teens James Graham as Louie, Andrew’s rebel son with his first wife; Aidan Veneracion as Archie, the son of Kristoff and Diana who constantly seeks his father’s approval; and Princess Aliyah as Anne, the bubbly daughter of Aling Cleofe; together with Sienna Stevens as Lizzie, Napoy’s adorable daughter. Also playing equally important roles are Andrew Schimmer and John Feir.

Dingdong Dantes says this is one of the most challenging drama series he has ever done. “The story is really engaging every night and I play a very good role as someone accused of killing my own father,” he adds. “And we have a really good cast na puro magagaling, so I’m really motivated and inspired when I’m doing scenes with them to make sure I give my best every time at nang hindi nila ako mapag-iwanan as they’re all very competent actors.”

With so many intriguing characters in the story, “Royal Blood” will surely hook you and keep you guessing about the identity of the killer or killers. Who is guilty? And who is innocent?
