From Headless Horses to a Crazy Bride – UK’s September Ghost Sightings

There are several ghosts that supposedly make themselves known every September in the United Kingdom, so let’s take a look at some of them.
Every September 3rd in Brampton, England, the devil supposedly visits Brampton Bryan Park. On that day many years ago, the devil came to Earth to collect the soul of Cromwell but not before destroying the park. Each year he is said to ride through the park to destroy it again.
In County Dublin, Ireland, on September 8th, a coach with two passengers, two footmen, and six headless horses are said to travel to an area close to Old Bawn Road and the Dodder. It stops where a house was once located where Archdeacon William Bulkeley lived in the 1600s. According to legend, whoever sees the coach will apparently die within one year and one day.
In the early part of the evening on September 8th, two ghosts – believed to be Amy Robsart and either her half-brother John Appleyard or her husband Robert Dudley – appear in the gardens of Rainthorpe Hall in Tasburgh, Norfolk, England. Interestingly, September 8th was the day that Amy fell down the stairs at Cumnor Place and died from her injuries.
Every year on September 12th, the spirit of a bride returns to the ruins of Baldoon Castle in Bladnoch, Scotland. Janet Dalrymple apparently went crazy on her wedding night and stabbed her husband numerous times but incredibly he survived. Janet, however, died shortly after the attack and rumor has it that she returns to the scene of the crime each year on that date.
The spirits of women and children who were murdered by soldiers at Newark Castle in Selkirk, Scotland, can be heard roaming around the property every September 13th.
King Edward II was said to have been murdered by orders from his wife Queen Isabella on September 21, 1327, and every year on that date, his screams can be heard throughout Berkeley Castle in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.
The ghost of Sir Walter Raleigh is said to appear every September 28th close to a tree that was named after him in Sherborne, Dorset, England. There are other entities that are said to haunt Sherborne Castle (it was built by Sir Raleigh in the 1500s) which includes a child and horses. The castle was even rumored to have been cursed at one time.
Once a year, the ghost of an eccentric named John “Mad Jack” Mytton is said to appear at the Mytton and Mermaid Hotel in Atcham, Shropshire, England. He apparently drank a lot of Port wine (6 bottles each day) and lived with 2,000 dogs and 60 cats. He eventually spent all of his money and ended up in a debtors’ prison where he died. September 30th was his birthday and that’s when he makes his presence known at the hotel.
