UNIVERSITY of the Philippines served notice of its bid of following up last month’s men’s basketball title conquest by winning three of four matches in the UAAP 3×3 tournament yesterday at CaSoBe in Calatagan South Beach in Batangas.

The Fighting Maroons dropped their first game to National University, 15-17, before going on a tear.

Harold Alarcon’s game winner powered UP past Far Eastern University, 20-18, in overtime before defeating University of Santo Tomas, 21-16, and Adamson, 15-13.

Channeling his inner Joel Cagulangan, whose championship-clinching triple ended the Maroons’ 36-year title drought, Alarcon went for broke with their duel with the Tamaraws hanging in the balance.

“Siguro go for two na kami sa overtime para panalo na agad kasi pag isa pang possession, baka sila (FEU) pa ang manalo,” said Alarcon.

UP wraps up its pool play stint against Ateneo and La Salle tomorrow, needing to win one of its last two games to make it to the Final Four, which will be played in the afternoon.

The Finals will be held on the same day.

In the women’s division, NU raced to a 4-0 record following a 13-9 win over UST, a 15-5 rout of FEU, a 21-14 conquest of UP, and a 21-10 tripping of Adamson.
