FARM Fresh finally tasted a Premier Volleyball League victory at the expense of Gerflor, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15, in a duel of also-ran clubs in the Second All-Filipino Conference eliminations at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.

It was a subdued celebration though for the Foxies, as the Defenders are still dealing with internal issues involving the players’ salaries.

Still, it was a historic moment for Farm Fresh, which ended a 12-match losing skid dating back from the Invitational Conference.

Later, Nxled subdued sister team Akari, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16, to halt a five-match slide.

The Chameleons improved to 2-5, while sending the Chargers to their fourth defeat in seven matches.

For libero Kiara Cruz, it was worth the wait for the Foxies, who improved to 1-7 in the season-ending tournament.

“Sobrang tagal na din namin itong inantay and naging patient lang kami and we’ve always had each other’s back kahit yung management, we’re so blessed to have them,” said Cruz.

“Parang overwhelming yung feeling for us and lalo na yun nga, bata pa kami. Pero sobrang saya, yun lang talaga, wala kaming ibang masabi kundi masaya,” she added.

Skipper and playmaker Louie Romero earned the game’s top honors after putting up a 13-excellent set showing and finishing with two points.

“We’re very happy to have finally won. It’s a result of our training and sacrifices,” said Romero. “We just hope to build on this (win).”

Nxled’s victory was dedicated for May Luna’s mother, who passed away last Sunday. Luna scored 14 points, including the match-clinching kill.

Luna cried after the game, being comforted by her teammates, who wore white ribbons to honor the Chameleons open spiker’s mother.

“Actually it kinda difficult decision using May Luna inside the court because everytime, she was crying. It is very sad for us,” said Nxled coach Taka Minowa.

“We were still confused in using her. But she practiced last time and she was very good and that’s why we used her,” the Japanese mentor added.

Jho Maraguinot had 13 points, 11 digs and nine receptions while Lycha Ebon chipped in 12 points and 13 digs.

Kate Santiago sizzled with 18-on-33 spikes and had five receptions, while scoring leader Trisha Tubu added nine markers in a two-set stint for Farm Fresh.

“Masaya po kasi yun nga po tulad ni Ate (Louie), nagbunga yung training namin, first win,” said Tubu. “Kaya ang sarap lang din po sa feeling. Hindi ko rin ini-expect kasi naglalaro lang kami, naglalaro lang ako na para sa team din.”

Nette Villareal and Danika Gendrauli led Gerflor with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Menche Tubiera added seven markers.

The Defenders stumbled to their seventh consecutive defeat.
