THE use of face shields in the city of Manila is no longer required.

This, after Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Executive Order No. 42 declaring the use of face shields as non-mandatory except in hospital setting, medical clinics and other medical facilities.

The Executive Order cited a report from Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año which said that many members of the Inter-Agency Tasked Force favored the removal of face shields as requirement.

The order further cited the de-escalation of the alert level status of the City of Manila and the rest of the National Capital Region last November 4.

Moreno had been appealing to the national government to drop its face shield policy as it only adds to the expenses of the general public amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mayor said the government must focus on the procurement of medicines such as Tocilizumab and Remdesivir.

Moreno directed Bureau of Permits and Licenses Office chiefLevi Facundo, Manila Barangay Bureau director Romy Bagay, Manila Health Department chief Dr. Poks Pangan and the hospital directors to undertake the information dissemination and strict implementation of the said ordinance.
