AGENTS of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) this week overrun a big marijuana (MJ) plantation site in Ilocos Sur where they uprooted and burned an estimated P4.5 million worth of fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings, PNP-DEG Director Brigadier General Narciso D. Domingo said on Thursday.

The official said that burned on site were some 16,500 pieces of marijuana plants and ten kilograms of dried cannabis leaves.

The marijuana plantation site in Barangay Licungan in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, was also sprayed with herbicide to prevent the banned crops from growing anew, Domingo said.

However, no arrests were made during the operation as anybody maintaining the marijuana site could spot the presence of armed troops from a distance and make good their escape.

In a report to PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the PNP-DEG director said his men were supported by operatives from the Sugpon Municipal Police Station (MPS), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO), and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) headed by its Executive Director Gilbert DC Cruz in conducting the marijuana eradication drive.

Domingo said that three separate marijuana cultivation sites were discovered in the area following a surveillance operation conducted by the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 1.
