Davao City cop nabbed for shooting bgy councilor
A DAVAO City policeman is now in jail after his colleagues arrested him for shooting a 42-year-old barangay councilor outside a cockfighting arena in Panabo City in Davao del Norte last Sunday, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.
The suspect, an intelligence operative of the Bunawan Police Station in Davao City, was arrested in a hot pursuit operation triggered by the shooting of Herky Abad outside the cockfighting arena in New Malitbog Gallera in Barangay New Malitbog in Panabo City, said the top cop.
An investigation report from the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO11), headed by Brigadier Gen. Benjamin H. Silo Jr., showed that local police officers immediately went into action after receiving a report regarding the shooting incident.
Based on a witness’ account, the victim was waiting for his companions after attending a cockfighting event in the area when a man wearing a black t-shirt, short pants, and a ball cap suddenly approached him and, without any provocation, shot the victim in the head.
The suspect immediately fled on board a black motorcycle.
Silo said a follow-up investigation resulted in the policeman’s identification as the alleged gunman.
“We have our standard procedure in investigating a PNP personnel who is tagged in crimes such as this. Definitely, we will not turn a blind eye and find justice for the victim,” Azurin said as he ordered Silo to leave no stones unturned in the investigation of the case.
