DA records P2.4M damage to agri products, farmlands due to Paeng

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) yesterday initially recorded a PhP 2.42 million worth of damaged agriculture products and farmlands due to the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng in Negros Occidental.

In its Bulletin No. 2 on STS “PAENG,” the DA reported that there were 173 farmers affected with volume of production loss at 87 metric tons (MT) and 252 hectares of rice areas. These values are subject to validation.

The DA disclosed that during the onslaught of the storm, its regional field offices affected have immediately activated DA Regional DRRM Operation centers; prepositioned of seeds for rice and corn, drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry in safe storage facilities; the continuous coordination with concerned national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs) and other DRRM-related offices for the impact of “PAENG”; and monitoring of the actual field situation.
