NDRRMC Executive Director Raymundo Ferrer explained that 16 out of 17 regions in the country were classified as “high risk” due to the cyclone that triggered flashfloods and landslides.

“The Philippines should declare a national state of calamity due to the effects, damage and projected impacts by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng for a period of one year, unless earlier lifted,” Ferrer said during a virtual meeting with the President on Saturday.

Ferrer also said that the country should received help from international assistance if it is needed.

For his part, the President said he will wait for the formal resolution to be submitted by the NDRRMC before approving the declaration of state of calamity.

PBBM said Typhoon Paeng affected several regions in the country that will give reasons to declare state of calamity.

The state of calamity will give the government the reason to use calamity funds and somehow prevent price increase of major commodities and basic needs.
