THERE’S now enough reason for the country to implement counter-measures to counter China’s aggressive and dangerous actions in the West Philippine Sea.

Various quarters welcomed President Marcos’ directive to the Department of National Defense (DND) and other concerned government offices and agencies to implement these unspecified counter-measures.

In a strongly-worded statement, the Ilocano Chief Executive said that “it is a response and counter-measure package that is proportionate, deliberate and reasonable.”

It will be recalled that earlier this year, President Marcos vowed not to allow any attempt by any foreign power to take even one square inch of our sovereign territory.”

Marcos made the “statement in one of his speeches while on a state visit in Australia, one of the many countries supporting the Philippines in its conflict with China.

“We seek no conflict with any nation, more so with nations that purport and claims to be our friends but we will not be cowed into silence, submission or subservience,” he added.

The Philippines counts on the support of many countries, including the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada and several European nations.

In fact, the US is a long-time treaty ally of the Philippines.

Subic Bay in Zambales used to be the home port of the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet, while the Clark Air Force Base in Pampanga was then America’s biggest military base outside the US mainland.

President Marcos’ latest directive is ample proof that he a very strong leader like our national heroes.
