A SERIES of manhunt operations in the countryside conducted by agents of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) this week has resulted in the arrest of four “most wanted persons” (MWPs) for rape and murder cases, CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Thursday.

“These arrests are part of PNP Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.’s order for us to step up our effort to account for wanted criminals to prevent them from victimizing more targets in the future,” said the CIDG director.

Lee said that one of the five suspects arrested is a male suspect, a resident of Barangay San Roque in Antipolo City, Rizal, who is wanted for 14 counts of rape.

The official said that the accused was arrested by members of the CIDG Major Crime Investigation Unit last Monday on the strength of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for 14 counts of rape issued by Judge Anna Zita Abuda-Cabellegan.

The 2nd suspect from Bacoor City, Cavite was arrested on the same day based on a warrant of arrest for child prostitution and other sexual abuse under Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law issued by Judge Maricar Prudon-Sison of the Bacoor City RTC (Regional Trial Court) Branch 113.

Another captured suspect, tagged as the 2nd MWP in South Cotabato, was also arrested last Wednesday in Bgy. Namnama in Koronadal City based on a warrant for murder issued by Judge Vicente Peña of the Surallah RTC Br. 45 in South Cotabato.

No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the suspect.

The 4th MWP was arrested along Cypress Alley in Asin Road, Baguio City, last Wednesday on orders of Judge Marybelle Demot-Marinas of the La Trinidad, Benguet RTC Br. 8.

The judge issued the warrant on November 17, 2008, and recommended a P120,000 bail for the accused, who was charged with the mauling, strangling, and stabbing of one male victim in Bgy. Balili in La Trinidad in August 2007.
