EVERYTHING is ready for the staging of the first Chess Education for Age-Group (CEFAG) online invitational chess tournament on Monday, Dec. 26 at the Lichess platform.

The one-day competition will kick off with an opening program at 6 p.m., while the games will begin at 7 p.m.

“Practice is the best guide to become a successful chessplayer,”said Jesus Tardecilla, co-founder of CEFAG.

Among the early participants are Felix Duterte (Manila), Paul Emher Gocela (Ormoc), Paolo Medina (Quezon City), Darwin Secorata (Paranaque), Engr. Joselito Serna (Surigao City), Christian Thompson (Makati), Yureeh Panganiban- (Nasugbu), Stephen Von Estavillo (Gen. Trias), Jedidia Diaz (Paranaque), Rai Enzo Batara (Imus), Yuan Tendilla (Manila), Algeom Dacallos (Manila), Kenzo Suarez (Manila), Freedom Buenaventura (Imus), AIM Victor “Bong” Anas (Manila), Carlito Andres (Dasmariñas), Ruben Cuevas (Malolos), Angel Po (Leyte), Sheryll Andres (Isabela), FM Henry Roger Lopez (Davao), Jordaine Tupaz (Talisay), Ric Ambatali (Australia), Jerry Segaya (Taguig ), and Jian Carlo Rivera (Rizal).

The six-round event, which is limited to 100 participants only, is open to all chess players, including students, executives, veteran and PWDs.

At stake are cash prizes, with the champion getting P1,000, runner-up P500, third placer P 300 and fourth placer P200.

Category winners in Senior 60 up, female, PWD, elementary girl, elementary boy and high school will receieve cash prizes.

CEFAG, which was established in 2010, is supported by the Philippine Chess League by NA Cesar Calopez, Inter-Agency Chess Group by Engr. Resito “Bong” David, SSS Chess Club by Atty. Carl Espallardo, PPKGCC Kings Team by NA Dioniver Medrano, TCC Chesscology by Engr. Melo Gamboa Guevarra, and ChessLovers by star blogger Richard Cornell Manzano.
