Caguisa Bros power T2000 to fourth win

T2000 out steadied Batch 93, 73-67, while Batch 2000 humbled Batch 89, 68-56, to keep their share of the lead with four straight victories in the ERJHS Alumni Sports Club basketball tournament at the Barangay N.S. Amoranto covered court in Malaya St., Quezon City over the weekend.

T2000, which is seeking to regain the title it won in 2019, relied on brothers Jefferson and Mark Caguisa and Chris Santiago to roll back upset-conscious Batch 93.

J.Caguisa scattered 26 points, his brother Mark added 23 points and Santiago had 13 points for T2000 of playing coach Jerome Nell.

Nell, Jay Santiago and Kelvin Pantaleon also stepped up for T2000, which held off a late rally by Batch 93 in the final quarter.

Joseph Magpantay scattered a game-high 39 points for Batch 93, which suffered its second loss in four outings.

Batch 2000, headed by Shimoto Garcia and playing coach Ron Anasco, leaned on Patrick Gamboa’s 17 points and Melvin Fuego’s 10 points to repulse Batch 89.

Jonathan Puzon carried the fight for Batch 89 with 17 points, followed by Alvin Tanare with 14 and Jon Cano with 12.

Batch 89 dropped to 2-3 win-loss record.

In the other game, Team 80s demolished Batch 96, 90-54, to even its record to 2-2.

Voltaire Penaga fired 16 and Vic De Guzman added 10 points for Team 80s, which is being supported by Barangay N.S. Amoranto chairman Ato De Guzman and Jo Aldana of Batch 85 Sports Club.

Melvin Mendoza and Jimmy Atcos led the way for Batch 96 with 22 and 17 points, respectively.

In volleyball, Team 80s posted back-to-back victories over Batch 94,16-25, 25-6, 25-11 and Batch 96, 25-15, 25-17, to clinch the first finals berth with a 4-2 win-loss record in the three-team, three-round competition.

Batch 94 also won over defeated Batch 96, 25-17, 25-16, to match Team 80s’ frontrunning record.

Batch 96 finished with a 1-5 slate.

The tournament is supported by Wang’s Ballclub and Ping Ping Lechon. AA
