THE Provincial Bus Operators Associations of the Philippines (PBOAP) Saturday assured its riding public that there will be no round of fare increases.

In an interview, Engineer Alex Yague, executive director of PBAOP, issued the pronouncement in the wake of two consecutive weeks of the bulk of petroleum products hike.

Yague said their officers and members nationwide inquired in the group whether they would file another round of fare increases before the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board), and the executive committee said there would be no fare hike petition.

Last week oil companies implemented almost an additional P7 per liter of diesel, and this coming week, oil companies will reportedly implement another P2 per liter of diesel.

“Totoo lahat yan, pero sa ibinigay na fare increase sa amin at noong nakalipas pang mga linggo bumaba naman din ng bulk, sa kuwenta namin walang dapat ikabahala ang aming mga pasahero na tataas uli ang pamasahe,” said Yaque.

He added, “Well, our members are busy preparing for the incoming holidays, particularly the November 1, holiday, or ‘Undas’, to ensure there would be enough buses to ply from northern to southwest and east.”

“Titiyakin namin may masasakyan ang ating mga kababayan pauwi ng kanilang mga probinsiya,” stressed Yague.

“We are busy now hiring drivers and other personnel in preparation for the expected exodus of commuters this coming Undas and holidays in December until the end of 2022,” added Yague.

At the same time, he assured the LTFRB that they are seriously observing the health and safety protocols implemented by the agency to ensure the safety of commuters.

In this development, Yague said the (PBOAP) and other commuter groups strongly endorsed LTFRB-Executive Director Atty. Bob Peig to become the next chairman of LTFRB.
