PRE-race favorite Bashierrou outlasted a field of six in taking the first leg of the 2022 Philracom Triple Crown at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.

The Rancho Sta. Rosa three-year-old stalwart by Brigand out of Allemeuse held off the late charge of far fourth choice Jungkook by almost two lengths in the final stretch to take home the P2.1 milliion that goes with the victory.

Trained by regular podium visitor Ruben Tupas, the chestnut colt bred by Melaine Habla and ridden by “Mr. Genius” Kelvin Abobo had to muster all he had as second choice Radio Bell kept hounding his every step from the gun.

Jungkook salvaged second, Radio Bell third with Gomezian coming in fourth. Time of race was 24′-24-25′ finishing at 28 for a total of 1:42 for the mile distance.

In the P1.5 million Hopeful Stakes, the Benhur Abalos’-owned and bred Brother Son (Keen Ice out of Our Deb On Air) proved that he indeed is a half-brother to 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike by handilly winning the race clocking 1:42.6 (25-24-25′-28) over 1600 meters.

Neatly placed in third most of the way, the bay colt trained by Claudio Angeles and steered by veteran campaigner Jesse Guce grabbed the lead with about 600 meters remaining and blasted away all comers

About 10 lengths behind, Tinago Falls managed to take second, Ipolitika third and Pharaoh Bell fourth.

The same connections as Brother Son added another P600,000 to their coffers as their bay filly Charm Campaign (Ultimate Goal-Shadow of the Moon) followed suit in mowing down the opposition in the last 3/8 mile in the P1 million Philracom 3YO Locally -Bred Stakes.

Finishing in the money were Lauriatisimo (second), Miss Hibiki (third), Eazacky (fourth), Amor Mi Amor (fifth) and King Hans (sixth). The clock stopped at 1:43.8 (24-25-26-28′) for the 1600 meter journey.

“We have just witnessed the best of the best three-year-olds in the land. It was a close finish among the entries. Expect a more exciting race in the 1800 meter second leg next month at the MetroTurf”, Philracom chair Reli de Leon stated.
