Balete tree pins 3 dead in Manila
THREE people were killed including a two-year-old boy when they were pinned to death after a huge branch of a balete tree fell on their houses yesterday past midnight on Estero de Magdalena, in Recto Avenue, Binondo, Manila.
Police identified the victims as Edcel Lansiola, 42, and Jomar Portillo, 42, and his two-year-old son John Mark. The victims suffered multiple abrasions and were rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. Five other residents were also injured.
The incident happened at around 12:46 a.m. Police said responders from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Manila Disaster Risk Reduction. Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection and PNP were able to retrieve the victims from the debris past 7 a.m.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
The Manila Social Welfare Development (DSWD) immediately extended assistance to the victims’ families.
