THE Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list has filed a bill providing monthly subsidies to persons with disability (PWDs).

On Monday, ACT-CIS Reps. Edvic Go Yap, Jocelyn Tulfo, and Jeffrey Soriano jointly filed House Bill (HB) No. 1754, providing for the monthly subsidy of indigent persons with disability.

As one of the main proponents of the said measure, Yap stated, “We must remember that the PWDs are still at a disadvantage in several facets of the society. The state of vulnerability is much worse among our indigent PWDs because in addition to their physical disabilities are their financial incapacities for daily living sustenance, including their medical needs.”

The proposed bill mandates the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to give eligible indigent PWDs a monthly subsidy amounting to one thousand pesos (P1,000) to augment their daily subsistence.

The said legislation also enumerates the sanctions that one may face at the expense of abusing the proposed program to their advantage, despite not meeting the minimum requisites of eligibility.

“After years of service, it is evident that the mission of ACT-CIS is not only bringing justice to the oppressed but ensuring that the distressed, disadvantaged, and vulnerable in every part of our country are given swift and sustainable assistance,” Soriano said.

Further, Yap cited the unceasing commitment of the party-list to fast-track more assistance programs to a greater number of Filipinos amid the skyrocketing unemployment rate

“As public servants, we are tasked with the duty to make the living conditions of our citizens better. Hence, given this duty, we must enable our PWDs to overcome the social barriers that are deterring them from having better life conditions, they need support that is not only sufficient but also sustainable,” Yap added.
