ACT-CIS nominates Susan Roces as ‘National Artist’

ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Jocelyn Pua Tulfo on Monday filed House Resolution (HR) No. 2584 urging the House of Representatives to unanimously nominate the late Susan Roces to join the Order of National Artists posthumously.

Tulfo’s proposed resolution expresses “the deep sense of appreciation of the House of Representatives for the immense contribution of Susan Roces to Philippine arts and culture and the development of the entertainment industry.”

HR 2584 took note that Susan Roces is “regarded as the ‘Queen of Philippine Movies’, having starred in more than 130 films, reigning alongside her husband the ‘King of Philippine Movies’ National Artist Fernando Poe, Jr.”

The resolution also enumerated the awards Susan Roces received from the Film Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), including, among others, the 1978 FAMAS Award for Best Actress for “Maligno” and the 1979 FAMAS Award for Best Actress for “Gumising ka… Maruja”; the 2017 FAMAS Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2003 Film Academy of the Philippines Lifetime Achievement Award; and the 2009 Cinema One Legend Award.

Tulfo also cited the nominations for Roces received from FAMAS.

Roces was nominated in 1966 for “Ana-Roberta”; 1969 for “To Susan with Love”; 1971 for “Divina Gracia”; 1973 for “Bilangguang Puso”; 1974 for “Hanggang sa Kabila ng Daigdig: The Tony Maiquez Story”; 1975 for “Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara”; 1987 for “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita”; 1988 for “Paano Kung Wala Ka Na?”; 1990 for “Ang Lahat Ng Ito Pati Na Ang Langit”; and 1998 for “Isinakdal Ko Ang Aking Ina”.
