AT least two Senators lauded the move of the Senate for the approval of Senate Bill no. 2450, also known as the “Permanent Validity of the Certificate of Live Birth, Death and Marriage Act” yesterday.

Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr., who chairs the Senate Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, lauded the Senate for the fast approval of Senate Bill No. 2450 otherwise known as the Permanent Validity of the Certificate of Live Birth, Death and Marriage Act.

“Mr. President, with this piece of legislation, we have clearly and categorically provided the permanent validity of the civil registry documents regardless of the date of issuance. As such, they will be recognized and accepted in all government or private transactions. Through this, our people do not have to unnecessarily spend time and money securing new copies of their documents,” Revilla said.

For his part, Senator Francis Kiko Pangilinan, who is the principal author of the bill, thanked Revilla for shepherding the bill’s passage and his other colleagues.

Under the measure, all government offices, private companies, schools, and non-government offices will be banned from requiring birth, death, and marriage certificates.

“Malaking tulong ang bagay na ito sa marami natin na kababayan,” Pangilinan stressed.

The Senate approved on final reading Monday, May 23, 2002, SBN 2450 with 21 affirmative votes, no negative vote, and no abstention. By Camille P. Balagtas
