MANILA Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet Isko Moreno reported that a total of 79,610 were vaccinated in the city during the three-day National Vaccination drive called for by President Rodrigo Duterte, whom he praised for the effort.

Moreno lauded Duterte for the aggressive campaign to get every Filipino vaccinated against COVID-19, in an effort to achieve the desired population protection, specially amid the threat of Omicron variant.

The mayor thanked and commended the vaccinating teams of Manila headed by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna who is in charge of the city’s mass vaccination program, along with Manila Health Department chief Dr. Arnold Pangan, who personally supervised the vaccination days held in 75 designated hubs.

Moreno said the vaccination drive proved effective especially in the provinces where many people remain unvaccinated due to previous problems of supply and lack of enough information.

“Eto namang katagumpayan ng ating bansa pinagpapasalamat din natin ‘yung bagong policy direction ni President Duterte wherein hinikayat niya ang mga lokal na pamahalaan na matagumpay na mabakunahan ang kani-kanilang mamamayan na sumali sa National Vaccination Days,” Moreno said.

If the intensified vaccination drive continues, majority of Filipinos would have been inoculated by the end of the year, said Moreno, noting that the same effort will be done again this month as already announced by health authorities.

“As you can see, the data shown to us with the concerted effort of all government units through the leadership of President Duterte and IATF, the other day is about 2.4 million ang nabakunahan.

Yesterday, 2.2 million. So just imagine if we are doing this every single day, by the time the end of the year, baka madali na natin ang lahat. Everyone now is protected. May panlaban na tayo sa Covid-19,” Moreno said.

The mayor said that the local government of Manila is all-out in supporting the efforts to vaccinate each and every Filipino as in fact, 75 sites were designated as vaccination sites during the three-day period.

These sites, he said, consisted of the city-run hospitals, public and certain private schools, shopping malls and community centers.

“I would like to at least give credit to my Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and the director of the Manila Health Department, Dr. Poks Pangan. Sa buong NCR, kami ang may pinakamalaking kontribusyon ngayon dahil sa effort ng aming mga doctor. Dito man lang mapasalamatan ko sila na ‘yung pagmamalasakitan sa isat-isa eh nangyayari lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya,” Moreno said.
