AUTHORITIES arrested five Chinese nationals for allegedly illegally detaining their compatriots Sunday afternoon in Parañaque City.

Parañaque Police Chief P/Col. Renato Ocampo identified the arrested suspects as Jiang Lincheng, 25, restaurant worker; Wu Yazhou, 30, supermarket worker; Li Siyuan, 32; Ding Fei, 24, restaurant worker; and businessman Chen Liqiang, 36.

An initial report received by Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/Col. Kirby John Kraft showed the victim, identified only as “Lin Mingshan,” was detained by the suspects against his will inside a room of a five-star hotel at New Seaside Drive, Bgy. Tambo at around 11:50 a.m.

When Lin was dragged by his compatriots at around 4:44 p.m. towards the exit door to board their vehicle, the victim took the opportunity to shout for help from security officers in the area, which resulted in his rescue and the arrest of the suspects.

Based on a review of the footage captured by CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras installed at the hotel, authorities learned that the suspects demanded from their compatriot P500,000 as payment for his debt and in exchange for his liberty.

The victim failed to produce the said amount prompting the suspects to detain him.

The suspects and the rescued victim were turned over by security officers of the five-star hotel to Parañaque Police for investigation, pending the filing of appropriate charges against them before the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office.
