SOME 3,003 Navoteño families have received their long-awaited second tranche emergency subsidy under the Bayanihan 1 Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)–National Capital Region, in coordination with the City Government of Navotas, has started the distribution of P5,000 cash assistance as partial payout to the beneficiaries.

Some 448 beneficiaries, whose names were included in the 51 letters Navotas sent to DSWD-NCR, have collected their initial cash aid, Saturday. The remaining 2,555 will receive their second tranche on October 11-18, 2021.

“Our constant follow-up and dogged perseverance have borne fruit at last! We are glad that beneficiary-families will now receive the cash assistance due to them. We will continue to coordinate with DSWD-NCR to address the appeals of other Navoteños who have yet to get their financial aid,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Bayanihan to Heal As One Act 1 expired in 2020 thus DSWD had to source the fund for the P8,000 second tranche from another program, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

Under AICS, only a maximum of P5,000 can be given to any individual beneficiary. DSWD will have to distribute the remaining P3,000 at another time.

In September, 668 Navoteño families also received their much-awaited P8,000 emergency cash assistance. They were also part of the letters that Tiangco sent to the DSWD.

As early as December last year, Tiangco had written DSWD-NCR Director Vicente Gregorio Tomas regarding the excluded names of beneficiaries in the SAP second tranche payroll. He had sent a total of 51 letters bearing 4,382 names of Navoteños.
